Harvey C Noone Post # 954

This is Year # 3 of collecting Valentines for the Vets at the BATAVIA VA.

Due to the pandemic, visitors are not allowed.  Let's show our appreciation and love for these vets by increasing the number of cards we deliver.

We are partnering with the Newman Riga Library on this project and the Library is collecting the Valentines!

Thanks to Lynn Brown, the Library Staff and to all who are participating with homemade and store bought cards!!!

1)  Amid COVID Challenges, the 2020 "Live Event" in Riga/Churchville Has Been Put On Pause.

2)  But, you can still participate by joining with us as we transform our 2020 event into a  "2020 Style" Event,

where we will still join together to carry out the mission to:

Throughout 2020, volunteers have been working hard, amid COVID challenges, to carry out the Wreaths Across America mission in Riga/Churchville to "Remember, Honor and Teach", as we did last year.  We are also committed to ensuring the safety of our community.  Accordingly, it was with a profound sense of sadness that the Legion Family made the very difficult decision to put the December 19, 2020 live portion of the event, including placing wreaths, on pause until next year.

All wreaths purchased for 2020 will be held for the December 18, 2021 event.

There are opportunities for all members of our community to still participate in this important event in 2020, although in a different way.  Some parts of both our local and the national event, held at Arlington National Cemetery, will be transformed to a virtual experience and will appear here, on our website.  Other parts will allow those who wish, and who are able to safely do so, to visit one  or more of our three of our licensed cemeteries and/or our  various veterans memorials located throughout Riga, on the day and time of your choice, to honor our Hometown Heroes who have served our nation and defended our freedoms.

and more information.

As a community, we began our participation in Wreaths Across America on December 7, 2020 - the anniversary of the entry of the US into WWII.  Auxiliary Poppy Co-Chair, Mary Martin, placed poppies and gold poinsettas at the grave of Gold Star Mother, Mary E. Noone.  And, Legion Commander, Gil Budd, placed a seasonal floral arrangement in a Wreaths Across America vase, America flags and an Army flag at the grave of Harvey C. Noone.  Through December 19, 2020, the entire community is invited to paticipate in Wreaths Across America 2020 Style by choosing from among the many ideas listed in the Wreaths Across America Tab on the left side of this Homepage.  Or, implement an idea of your own, in order to fulfill the Wreaths Across America Misison of REMEMBER, HONOR and TEACH.  Just because in 2020 we cannot join together, as a community, to lay wreaths on graves our veterans buried in our three local cemeteries this year, does NOT mean that you cannot participate in this event.  You can and we encourage you to do so!

However, you choose to, and are able to safely participate with us in 2020, we look forward to working with the Wreaths Across America organization (as three of over 2,225 cemeteries and other licensed locations across America), and YOU, to make 2021 an even bigger and better event.

Thank you for your support!  And, God Bless Our Veterans.
